Natural Pet Food: Fat Cat No More
Last year my mom died, and I adopted her fat cat. Buddha was 9 years old. His coat was dull, he had dandruff, he tipped the scales at 20 lbs…and he was kinda stinky. My mom, bless her heart, loved her Buddha, and didn’t want him to ever go hungry. So, she left food out for him. Dry food. Wet food. Treats. It was a feline smorgasbord 24 hours a day.
As soon as Buddha made the marathon car ride from northeast Iowa to Tallahassee, however, my daughter and I had other plans for feeding him. We would transition Buddha to all-natural cat food from the co-op that was filling and nourishing so he didn’t feel like snacking in between a limit of two meals a day.
Buddha’s main meal would be a full pouch of Castor & Pollux Pristine brand cat food. CCM carries these flavors: Free Range Chicken, Free Range Turkey, and Wild Caught Salmon—all morsels in gravy. The meat in Castor & Pollux pet foods are raised without antibiotics or hormones, the fruits and veggies are grown without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, contain no grain, soy, corn, or wheat, and are not made with artificial preservative, flavors or colors.
Ten weeks after his arrival in Florida, we took Buddha to the vet. He lost two pounds! He has more energy, his coat is shiny and no more dandruff. And better yet, his litter box isn’t a disaster zone.
Just like with people, our pets do better on a diet that is natural.
We don’t have any weight goals in mind for Buddha, but some day, just maybe, he might fit more easily in this file folder box he seems to like in my office.
