Get Your Glass On The Scale

It’s time for ‘Tare 101’ in our Bulk Department so we can all reduce our food packaging.

Here’s How to Tare in three easy steps:

  • Bring your sanitized container (glass or plastic) and weigh it on our new scale. It’s next to the filtered water machine.

  • See the number on the scale? That’s called a tare weight. Write it down on the lid with a marker, or on a piece of masking tape, and fill your container to your heart’s content. Fill it with bulk granola or rice or beans or coffee or whatever you want in CCM’s glorious bulk department.

  • Take it to the register. Your cashier will weigh your container and deduct the tare weight from your purchase of bulk product.

Here’s one more step:

  • Feel good about yourself. You’ve just participated in ZERO WASTE!

You’ve eliminated one more container that would have ended up either in a landfill or on a long road to a recycle bin where it would have endured another costly process of traveling across the country and being ground up and—using more energy—turned into yet another container and suffering the same fate over and over again.

If you have questions, please ask a friendly CCM staff member for assistance.

And thanks in advance for remembering to bring your containers!

In cooperation,
